Prose of a Happy Pet
'A place I would call home', that was what every pet said when they were talking about their future. I long gave up the idea of having arms to embrace me and hands to stroke my now stained fur. Those creatures called 'humans' would come and go, look at me from high above, letting their distraction of the fluffy kitten or puppy with the striking spots or stripes steal their attention. This was not news to me, it certainly didn't come as a shock. I would turn slowly in my cramped quarters, what I called 'home', tucking my tail beneath my legs. The lights would eventually turn off followed by a few hours of silence; with the exception of emergency vehicles sounding outside or the slap of wind against the glass window at the front of the store. Soon the bright light and loud noise of voices would return and again a day would unfold. There wasn't much variance to the daily routine, it was the same exchange of some sort of paper for kitten or puppy. So many went and even more came. After I started to get so cramped in my 'home' that tucking my tail under my legs wouldn't suffice, I was taken out into a fenced in circle with a few humans looking down at me. There weren't smiles and there wasn't any paper flying from their pockets. What there was though was a 'home' brought in by one of the humans who had one of their kind push me in. I didn't give up a fight, at least in this place I could turn without cramping my body or pinching my skin...[to be continued in next issue, by, Icciotto]
